The Equinox Flower, known in Japanese as Higanbana, blooms around the autumn equinox and is often associated with the boundary between life and death. It symbolizes themes such as past-life memories and the cycle of reincarnation.

I was inspired by both its elegant form and symbolic meaning, and created an animation showing the flower transitioning from full bloom to withering. As it fades, its reflection transforms into a beating heart, representing the continuous cycle of life and rebirth.

I’m interested in themes of duality, such as yin and yang, dreams and reality, and the cycle between life and death.

I was inspired by the relationship between the sun and the moon. Although the sun is vastly larger, both appear almost the same size from Earth, creating a natural sense of balance. This visual phenomenon sparked the idea of exploring opposing forces existing in equilibrium.

This piece reflects the space between two states — waking and dreaming, light and darkness. By moving between these contrasts, the animation aims to capture a subtle tension and harmony, suggesting a continuous transition between different realities.

This piece originated from a small doodle I made in my notebook, which later developed into a more complete idea.

From childhood to adolescence, adulthood, and old age, our lives are often structured around time — eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work. We constantly check the clock, as if it alone tells us when to act and what we should be doing. Time quietly governs our routines and decisions.

In this work, I reflect on how time can feel restrictive, as though we are confined within it. Much like being trapped inside the face of a clock, we move within its boundaries — repeating cycles, measured and contained within a small, invisible cell.
